Guanajuato is considered one of the most beautiful and cultural cities in the world, and it hosts one of the most important dance training festivals in Latin America: ATLAS MEXICO Biennial International Dance Festival.
Guanajuato City Guanajuato is known as the most important colonial tourist destination in Mexico, selected by UNESCO as a Wolrd Heritage site 20 years ago. Being the most important colonial city in the country has earned it several recognitions throughout its history, such as the Cervantine Capital of the Americas, the Cultural Heritage Capital of the World, The Ibero-American Cradle of Quijote, City of Light and the site for the most important artistic event in Latin America such as “The Cervantino International Festival”.
Guanajuato houses several colonial gems, an architectural beauty, archaeological sites and business and trade centers. The city has 20 museums and 50 other beautiful sites known as The 50 Wonders of Guanajuato.

by plane
Guanajuato International Airport (IATA: BJX, ICAO: MMLO), this is one of the most important air terminals in the center of Mexico. Due to its closeness to the capital Guanajuato, and the cities León and Silao, it is also known as León’s Airport, Silao’s Airport and Bajío’s Airport.
This is an international airport, therefore, flights come from Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago in the US. If you want to come to Guanajuato from any other point in Mexico or the world, you first have to fly to Mexico City’s International Airport or to other cities such as Cancun, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana to then take a connection flight to Guanajuato’s Airport.

Guanajuato’s Bus Terminal is located 12 minutes away from Guanajuato’s city center, turning it into a popular spot due to the touristic flow of people visiting Guanajuato. This terminal hosts bus lines such as: Primera Plus, Futura Select, ETN autobuses de lujo, Metropolitano, Servicios Coordinados, Unebus, all of which travel to many other cities in the country.
A bus ride to Guanajuato from Mexico City takes approximately 5 hours and it leaves from the Northern Bus Terminal (Terminal de Autobuses del Norte.)
by car
Guanajuato is located approximately 4 hours away from Mexico City by car, which makes it a great weekend plan. To travel by car to Guanajuato from Mexico City you must take the highway in the direction to Querétaro and follow the signaling that will guide you through the State of Mexico (Naucalpan, Tepoztaln).
Once in Querétaro you must follow the signaling in the direction of Celaya by highway 45D.
Pass through Celaya and continue to Irapuato and then to León. On that highway take the exit that says “Guanajuato Cuota”. Once you reach the tollbooth follow the indications to finally arrive in Guanajuato.
